Ever wonder what it would be like to take Martial Arts? Do you have to be in great physical condition to even learn the moves? You might be surprised to learn just how easy it is.

I’ve been taking instructions from Moriah Lovato and Manuel Guillen for a number of months, and I’m 76 years old. If I can learn, anyone can. Here’s your chance to find out if this is something you want to get involved in for free. Our Library is holding Martial Arts every third Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. until the month of May.

Manuel and Moriah both graduated from Artesia High School, so they are locals. Manuel went to Eastern New Mexico University in Portales and was a member of the Greyhound MMA in 2005. The two met in 2016; Moriah was already interested in MMA. Their Varsity Academy opened in 2018 and their current facility in the Abo Shopping Center in 2023.

They currently have kid lessons, private lessons and MMA Fitness, which is focused on conditioning for a fighter. They also stress movements to get you out of a situation, back up and yell. Again, remove yourself from violence, stay safe.

So mark your calendar and see if Martial Arts is something that would work for you. Moriah and Manuel can be reached at 575-308-1553 if you have questions. See you at the library the third Saturday of the month.
