After three days working in over 100-degree temperatures, the Chase Scholars have finished wiping the sweat from their brows and have fulfilled a portion of their commitment to the Mack Chase family who gave the nearly 90 Artesia High School graduates a scholarship to help pay for their college educations.

In three exhausting days, the scholars completed more than 180 community service projects for Artesia residents as part of the Chase Foundation Scholarship Program.

Initially, the scholars were expected to work for four entire days, five if necessary, but only two days into the project they had already accomplished more projects than the team leaders believed they would be able to.
One of the team advisors, Don Greetan, was amazed at the amount of work the scholars were able to accomplish.

“We were the heavy lifting team, and there was no complaining,” Greetan said. His team was composed of several men, capable of hauling away tree limbs, digging up stumps and even removing an old refrigerator from a home. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
