Detective Chantel Longway and crime scene investigator Sarah Bassett recently treated members of the 7024U Youth Outreach program to a tour of the Artesia Public Safety Complex. Longway and Bassett explained their jobs and equipment, and answered questions from the youth. “Often, youth are taught to fear the police,” said Caley Armstrong, 7024U executive director. “Fortunately, our kids received a new, positive perspective of the police force. They were thrilled with the tour and information. Thanks again, ladies, for your time, talent, and friendly reception!” Pictured from left are Daijah Madrid, Junior Smedley, Longway, Bassett, Gabby Pina and Aracelie Duran. The 7024U Youth Outreach Center is designed to help local youth with life and social skills, anger management, bullying, and substance abuse prevention, and introduce them to the arts. Anyone seeking more information or wishing to volunteer may call 736-7024. Courtesy Photo
