ARTESIA — The Artesia Police Department (APD) is continuing to investigate a burglary that occurred early Monday morning at a local restaurant.
APD Cmdr. Pete Quinones reports that officers were dispatched around 9 a.m. Monday to Pecos Diamond Steakhouse, 601 S. First St., in reference to a commercial burglary. Surveillance footage indicated the break-in occurred around 4:20 a.m. Monday.
The APD Criminal Investigations Division (CID) was called, and a crime scene investigator processed the scene. Quinones said the restaurant suffered damage at the suspect’s entry and exit points, and a very small amount of money — approximately $47.50 in change — was taken.
Cmrd. David Rodriguez of the CID said evidence was collected at the scene and will be submitted to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety’s crime lab for DNA processing.
Pecos Diamond posted on its Facebook page Monday evening that staff had been hard at work preparing the restaurant for reopening Tuesday and thanked La Fonda Restaurant for providing food Monday to the Pecos Diamond staff.
