Winter is coming, and it may be colder this year for some. Every year, when it starts getting cold, people are bound to leave their cars running in their driveways to heat up or defrost, unattended, before drivers leave for work. Some of these vehicles, the Artesia Police Department says, are stolen right out of their driveways.

Citizens are free to leave their vehicles running, unlocked and unattended, on their own property, according to the APD, but to do so on public streets and on public property is a violation of city statutes for which APD sometimes issues citations. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
