ARTESIA — At approximately 11:13 a.m. Tuesday, New Mexico State Police were summoned to the scene of a traffic crash involving a 2008 Dodge pickup on State Road 229 near Mill Road.

The on-scene investigation revealed the pickup was traveling south on State Road 229 (Haldeman Road). For unknown reasons, the vehicle veered to the left and traveled onto the east dirt shoulder, leaving the roadway.
The vehicle struck and traveled through a barbed wire fence and came to a stop in a pasture, facing southeast. The vehicle sustained minimal damage, caused when the truck struck the fence.
The driver was pronounced deceased on the scene by Field Deputy Medical Investigator Michell Gray.
