With Gene Dow, the vice president and general manager of KSVP, hosting the event, the ceremony formally began with the playing of “O Fair New Mexico,” the state song.
After the opening song, the color guard posted the colors using a flag that once flew over the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. An opening prayer was also given by Pastor Rick Sullivan of First Baptist Church.
Next, Zack Riley, a congressional staffer, spoke on behalf of Congressman Steve Pearce. As Riley pointed out, the congressman couldn’t be in attendance because he was overseas visiting with U.S. troops. Nevertheless, Pearce had a few words to say on behalf of Baish Park’s dedication and Veterans’ Day.
