A large amount...
High winds Saturday in Artesia grounded hot air balloons at the annual Balloons and Bluegrass Festival but did not stop Artesians from enjoying themselves. At left, children watch as Darrell Fear inflates his balloon for display. Most balloonists will not consider flying if the wind on the ground is over five miles per hour, and Artesia experienced gusts Saturday up to 46. Despite the balloon difficulties, the bluegrass portion of the festival went off without a hitch at The Derrick Floor, with bands performing for an enthusiastic crowd.
