The Bulldog football team closed out its second season Friday at chilly Bulldog Bowl with a big win over Mayfield, 43-7.

The ‘Dogs hung 36 points on the Trojans in the first quarter alone, with three of their offensive touchdowns consisting of four plays or fewer and the defense tacking on a pick six.

Artesia rounded out its 43 points just prior to the half, then let its second- and third-stringers close things out in the final 24 minutes of the game. Mayfield logged its lone touchdown with eight minutes to go in the contest.

With the win, the Bulldogs close out District 4-AAAAA play with a record of 2-1 (9-1 overall) and will await Sunday morning’s NMAA Seeding and Selection Show to learn where they’ll land in the Class 4A state playoffs.
