The Bulldog football team got the train back on the tracks Friday at Bulldog Bowl, picking up its first District 4-AAAAA win over Goddard, 54-14.

The ‘Dogs jumped on the Rockets early, building a 20-0 lead in the opening quarter and tacking on three more touchdowns prior to the half to take a 41-0 advantage in at the break.

The second half was an abbreviated affair with the 35-point mercy-rule clock in motion. Artesia made it 48-0 in the third as the second and third strings began to work their way into the action. Goddard was able to get on the board in the fourth, scoring twice, but the Bulldogs had the final word with a big touchdown run in the final seconds to round out the 54-14 final.

With the victory, Artesia improves to 8-1 on the season, 1-1 in district play, while the Rockets drop to 6-3, 1-1. Roswell High (9-0, 2-0) remained in the driver’s seat with a 48-15 win over Mayfield (4-5, 0-2) at Wool Bowl.
