On Thursday, April 25, Pilot Thomas Logistics (PTL), a national fuel and lubricants company, hosted a grand opening at the new Pilot Thomas fuel stop at 210 E. Main St.

The grand opening event included a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Artesia Chamber of Commerce and networking with local professionals, with a free hot dog bar served by members of KSVP Radio. PTL gave away a grill, grill sets, notebooks and fuel discount cards, which will be available for a limited time to the public.

Pilot Thomas is currently rebranding the company with a new focus on opportunities to provide fuel to the general public, building on the company’s history of expedient, quality provision of fuels, lubricants and other chemicals to oilfield, farming, mining and marine companies of all sizes. The two fuel stops located in Artesia are part of an effort to find and update antiquated fuel stops that fail to offer modern technology and at-the-dispenser access to Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), which is normally solely available inside a convenience store or truck stop.

PTL has renovated 12 sites across the country, with 38 more on the Phase One list. Though these stations are spread across the country, 25 are located in the Permian Basin, with five in New Mexico.

Before cutting the orange ribbon, Vice President of West Texas Cardlocks Chris Bridgford explained the Permian Basin was chosen purposefully as the region for the launch of the new PTL. Bridgford believes PTL has tools and resources Southeast New Mexico and West Texas can use to elevate current business operations.

“Our goal is to make what you do better,” explained Erik Alonzo, a PTL representative.

Though the unmanned fuel stops, or cardlocks, were the focus of the grand opening, the PTL website explains the larger scope of PTL services, including fuel and chemical delivery to farms and other jobsites, fleet fueling account options and more. In addition to these services, the use of the most modern technology ensures the entire fueling process can be as expedient as possible, wasting less company time on filling up so more time is available for delivering truckloads and other moneymaking tasks. Involvement in the fuel process from such a variety of perspectives allows PTL to offer fuel at competitive prices without sacrificing quality.

The PTL representatives present all reiterated the local economy and community is not to be overlooked, assuring those in attendance the company plans to hire locally stationed administrative workers and that the overall rebranding plan considers how the company will be able to give back to the community.
