Burch, forced to cast the deciding vote, selects Hill

In a tight vote, District 4 Artesia City Councilor Terry Hill gained the title of mayor pro-tem Tuesday night during a regularly-scheduled meeting of the Artesia City Council.

When the issue was brought to the table and nominations called for, Councilman Kent Bratcher nominated Hill and Councilman Jose Aguilar nominated Raul Rodriguez.

A vote was called for and showed the council to be split down the middle. Aguilar, Nora Sanchez, Rodriguez and Manuel Barragan voted for Rodriguez, while Bratcher, Hill, J.B. Smith and Bill Rogers supported Hill.
