After windy conditions and the threat of thunderstorms forced the cancellation of Artesia’s Fourth of July fireworks display Wednesday, it was decided today that the show will be postponed until 9:15 p.m. Saturday, July 7.
“I met with Mike Deans earlier this morning at the Chamber of Commerce,” Mayor Phillip Burch said today. “And we all got our heads together and decided to move the fireworks show to this Saturday. We’ve advised the police department, fire department and the parks department so they’ll be able to do the same things they did yesterday.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
The mayor said the fireworks show was rescheduled because of weather and in the hopes that it may bring additional people into Artesia to see the show.
