In the first City Council meeting since the municipal election, the council moved one step forward in building the new animal shelter. A bid of $1,018,000, submitted by Wade Construction, was begrudgingly approved.
In order to approve the bid, the council had to adjust the budget by adding an additional $400,000 to ensure the shelter would be built without any financial problems. Upon discussion of the bid, some contention arose among members of the council. Some, like Councilor Bill Rogers, voiced disappointment in the new bid.
“Are we building what we need?” Rogers asked his fellow councilors. “Or are we building what we want?”
Councilor Raul Rodriguez was also a bit skeptical of the bid.
