Mayor ‘looks forward to more progress’ in final meeting of 2011

The Artesia City Council met, Tuesday night, and voted to approve an ordinance to adopt a new capital outlay municipal gross receipts tax, pending public vote.
The ordinance would raise the current gross receipts tax one quarter of a percent from 7.1875 percent to 7.4375 percent. This would make Artesia’s gross receipts tax rate the same as Carlsbad’s.
City Clerk Aubrey Hobson stated this gross receipts tax increase would cost the consumer an extra $2.50 for every $1,000 spent in Artesia. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
