After a great deal of discussion and contention, the City Council Tuesday awarded the bid to renovate Baish Veterans’ Park to Bradbury Stamm Construction. After adjusting the budget, and without including the costs covered by Artesia MainStreet, the city has set aside $1,112,000 for the park’s completion.
Originally, the city had allotted $672,000 in its budget to pay for the renovations to Baish Park. However, as a result of the bids submitted during the park’s rebidding process, the council was forced to adjust the city’s budget by $440,000 – taking $80,000 from infrastructure and $340,000 from the general fund – in order to pay for the completion of the park. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
Included in the $440,000 was a $20,000 contingency plan which, at the suggestion of Community Development Director Tina Torres, was added to ensure the project would not run out of funds before completion.
