After 29 years at AHS, Williams will be missed

After 29 years at Artesia High School, Leah Williams is saying goodbye. Williams will retire from the senior guidance counselor position at AHS, and according to Superintendent Mike Phipps, she will be missed.
“Her heart for children is bigger than New Mexico,” Phipps said. “She is outstanding, dedicated and we hate to lose her.”
Phipps said Williams was instrumental in developing the night school program at AHS, which gave many students an opportunity to get the classes they needed in order to graduate. She also assisted in setting up the school GRADS (Graduation Reality and Dual-Role Skills) program. The program provides on-campus daycare to teen mothers.
“It’s great to know that our teen parents will be able to support themselves and their children,” she said. “This way, if they want to get married they can, but they don’t have to.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
