It’s all over, and the voters of Artesia have spoken.
Resulting from Election Day, Artesia voted to send two local Republicans to the Eddy County Commission and another to the state Senate. Additionally, Sgt. Scott London garnered more votes than Sheriff Ernest Mendoza, making him the next Eddy County Sherriff.
In District 3’s County Commission race, Glenn Collier defeated Democrat Carl Barnes by receiving 61 percent of the vote (or 2,384 votes). Barnes received 1,520 votes. “The people have given me the opportunity to once again serve Eddy County,” Collier said after the election. “I have and always will embrace the desires, life values and vision of the people that I am honored to serve. Thank you for your trust and belief in me successfully facing the challenges ahead.”
In District 2, Republican Royce Pearson defeated Democrat Tommy Chavarria by garnering roughly 76 percent of the vote (or 2,504 votes). Chavarria received 24 percent of the vote (or 773 votes).
