Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Wayne Richard “Dick” Crenshaw passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the age of 80.
Wayne was born May 18, 1937, in East Grand Plains, N.M.
He joined the U.S. Navy on Dec. 8, 1954, in Artesia and served with Patrol Squadron One (VP1) at Whidby Island, Wash.; Air Antisubmarine (AAS) Squadron Twenty-Nine (VS29) at San Diego, Calif.; AAS Squadron Twenty-Seven (VS27) at Norfolk, Va., and Quanset Point, R.I.; AAS Forty-One (VS41) at Key West, Fla.; Naval Air Station (NAS) Cabiness Field at Corpus Christi, Texas; NAS Saufley Field at Pensacola, Fla.; and Advanced Training Squadron 301 (ATU301) at NAS Corpus Christi.
He retired May 17, 1974, at NAS Corpus Christi as Chief Petty Officer, E7 (ADRC/AC).
Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle to countless nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Magdalena “Madeline” Crenshaw; children Frank Crenshaw, Mark Crenshaw, Jeff Crenshaw, Tracy Crenshaw, Maggie Jochen, Barbara Weatherly and Christina Ray; 17 grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and siblings Nita Taylor, Gwen Swann, Hal Crenshaw and Susie Ferguson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Franklin Crenshaw and Marguerite Cerena (Downs) Crenshaw; siblings Dorothy “Dot” Parker, Wanda Hopper, Cal Crenshaw, Charles Crenshaw and Frances Fields; and stepson Leo LaRose.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral service at this time.
