ARTESIA — The Artesia Police Department (APD) is continuing to investigate an incident of vandalism that occurred last week at the girls’ softball complex in the southwest corner of Jaycee Park.

According to the police report, APD officers were dispatched around 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, to the John R. Gray Girls’ Fastpitch Complex, where they were informed by representatives of the Artesia Girls’ Softball Association (AGSA) that an unknown subject(s) had entered the complex and caused damage.

The report states that damage was done to the locks on the restroom doors, concession stand door, upper office door, two storage sheds, and two gates.

Additionally, damage was done to foul-ball safety netting around the complex and brickwork in several locations on the outer wall of the concession building.

The subject(s) gained entry to the concession and office areas and rummaged around, but nothing was taken. Total damage was estimated at approximately $3,000.

The vandalism occurred sometime between Jan. 13 and 24. Anyone with potential information regarding this incident is urged to contact the APD at 575-746-5000.
