Children have chance to win bikes, helmets
Pictured, Daily Press Editor Jessica Carner hangs coloring contest entries on the wall in the Daily Press office on Thursday. The deadline has been extended until Tuesday, May 11, for all first- and second-grade students who wish to enter a coloring contest sponsored by the local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Team Turkey Bowmasters and the Artesia Daily Press. Large coloring sheets with a turkey on them were featured in the May 2 issue of the Daily Press and still are available for just 25 cents. Artesia students received coloring sheets at school and turned them in to teachers, but students who also wish to decorate a newspaper-sized version or who did not receive entries at school are urged to stop by the Daily Press office at 503 W. Main St. Even if your child already colored a turkey at school, they can still color the larger version to increase their chance of winning a new bike. Entries are hanging in the Daily Press office and the public is invited to stop in and vote for their favorite. The popular choice winner will receive a bicycle and helmet. Judges also will select one boy and one girl entrant to receive a new bike and helmet. Children may decorate their pictures however they wish and are encouraged to be as creative as possible (for example, it is admissible to glue feathers to the tail or beads to the eyes of the turkey). For more information, call Jessica at 746-3524 or e-mail editor@artesianews.com, or call Kathy Kolt at 365-3300.
