Artesia falls to Manzano 42-22 in Homecoming game

In terms of the type of outing everyone involved was likely hoping for Friday at Bulldog Bowl, things didn’t turn out so well.

The Bulldogs came up 20 points short of Class 5A fourth-ranked Manzano on Homecoming night, struggling to get their offense clicking in the second half and finding few answers for the Monarch rushing tandem of Quavshaun Branch and Anthony Johnson.

But although a win on Homecoming is obviously the preferred result, the experience gained Friday by this year’s young and somewhat green group of ‘Dogs will prove valuable as the team prepares to embark on a three-game road trip.

Top-tier 5A squads are included on Artesia’s schedule for a reason, and with more to come in the near future, Friday’s effort was just another building block. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
