Early and absentee voting dates have been set for the upcoming Primary Election.

Those wishing to register to vote ahead of the election may do so now through Tuesday, May 7, at the County Clerk’s Office, 325 S. Main St., Carlsbad; the County Clerk’s Sub-Office, 602 S. First St., Artesia; or online by visiting voterportal.servis.sos.state.nm.us and clicking “Voter Information Portal,” then “Register to Vote.”

Early and absentee voting will begin Tuesday, May 7. Early and absentee in-person voters can visit either county clerk’s office listed above according to the following schedule:

  • May 7-10 and 13-17: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • May 20-24 and 27-31: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • May 18, May 25 and June 1 (Saturdays): 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

    Those wishing to vote absentee by mail may request a ballot from either county clerk’s office or through the online Voter Information Portal at “Request an Absentee Ballot Online for the 2024 Primary Election.”

    The last day to request a mail ballot is Tuesday, May 21, and mail ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday, May 28. Mail ballots not postmarked by that date may be dropped off at the County Clerk’s Office in Carlsbad or any pollint site on Election Day.

    Election Day will be Tuesday, June 4, and Artesians may cast their ballots at the following polling sites:
  • County Clerk’s Sub-Office, 602 S. First St.
  • Central Valley Electric Cooperative: 1505 N. 13th St.
  • Faith Baptist Church: 401 S. 20th St.
  • Trinity Temple Assembly of God: 1507 W. Hermosa Drive

    Voters may also visit the Voter Information Portal at the website address listed above to determine their voting districts.

    The following candidates have filed for county-level seats:
  • County Sheriff: Matthew Todd Hutchinson (R-Carlsbad); Victor E. Martinez Jr. (R-Carlsbad); Andrew G. Kennedy (L-Loco Hills)
  • County Commissioner, District 2: Hayley Klein (R-Artesia)
  • County Commissioner, District 3: Philip John Troost (R-Artesia); Justin D. Wilson (R-Carlsbad)
  • County Commissioner, District 5: Sarah Marie Cordova (D-Carlsbad, incumbent)
  • County Treasurer: Patricia H. Carrasco (R-Carlsbad)

    The following candidates have filed for national- and state-level seats:
  • U.S. Senator: Martin Heinrich (D, incumbent); Nella Louise Domenici (R); Manuel “Manny” Gonzales III (R)
  • U.S. Representative, District 3: Teresa Leger Fernandez (D, incumbent); Sharon E. Clahchischilliage (R)
  • U.S. Representative, District 2: Gabriel Vasquez (D, incumbent); Yvette Herrell (R)
  • State Senator, District 32: Candy Spence Ezzell (R-Roswell, incumbent); Chad A. Hamill (R-Hagerman)
  • State Senator, District 34: James G. Townsend (R-Artesia)
  • State Senator, District 42: Steven V. McCutcheon (R-Carlsbad, incumbent); Larry R. Scott (R-Hobbs)
  • State Representative, District 54: Jonathan Allen Henry (R-Artesia); Christian Scott Ehmling (L-Artesia)
