ROSWELL — Four candidates seeking nomination to the New Mexico State Legislature spoke to members of the Chaves County Board of Commissioners during a special meeting held Nov. 6.

The four people vying to complete the term of Sen. Stuart Ingle (R-Portales), who vacated his seat, are State Rep. Greg Nibert (R-Roswell); Pat Boone, an Elida rancher; Travis Glenn, Tatum Municipal Schools board president; and Larry Marker, a Roswell businessman.

Each filed paperwork with the county before the meeting and each candidate was asked to speak no longer than “five minutes, with some grace,” said Commission Chair Jeff Bilberry.

Bilberry and commissioner Dara Dana stated that they were glad to see so many people “step up” to fill the seat.

No formal action was taken by the commissioners, but the matter will be part of the agenda for their regular meeting on Nov. 17.
