ARTESIA — The Lady Bulldog swim team blew the competition out of the water Saturday at the District 3/4 Swim Meet at the Artesia Aquatic Center.
The Artesia girls not only claimed the district championship, they logged 12 state-qualifying times and produced five event-specific district titles, including a sweep of the relays.
The Bulldogs, meanwhile, came in a solid third in the combined district, posting eight state-qualifying times and adding three individual district championships to Artesia’s haul.
Coming in first place at the meet for the Lady Bulldogs were Savana Watts in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.68, Ann Greenwood in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:07.52, and the 200 freestyle (1:43.61), 200 medley (1:54.29) and 400 freestyle (3:50.06) relay teams.
Taking district titles for the boys were Layton Whitmire in the 100 backstroke with a 59.09, Eli DeHoyos in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:02.66, and the 200 freestyle relay team (1:32.18).
The squads will now have two weeks to prep for the State Swim Meet, slated for Friday, Feb. 23, in Albuquerque.
