Jury selection began yesterday and continues today in the trial of Jess Carpenter, charged with the second-degree murder of Joseph P. Darras and negligent use of a deadly weapon.

The State of New Mexico alleges that in the early morning hours of May 21, 2011, Carpenter spent the evening drinking with Darras, to the point of intoxication.
