Artesia Public Schools Superintendent Mike Phipps announced at Monday’s meeting of the APS Board that, after 42 years of service with the APS and 20 years as superintendent, he will retire at the end of the current school year.

“I am very proud of my career, and I will not be a critic of the district or the school board once I’m retired,” Phipps stated in a letter presented at the meeting.

Phipps says he plans to spend his retirement with his wife, Kathy, going fishing and camping for a few weeks.

“We both would like to express our deepest and most humble gratitude to the Artesia Board of Education,” Phipps stated. “Making us part of your educational family has created so many treasured memories.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
