A passion for children and learning is what motivates Central Elementary School’s new second-grade teacher, Shonda Poe.
Poe has spent most of her life living between Lovington and Artesia. In 1980, Poe graduated from Artesia High School, then attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces for one year. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
Poe stated she had always wanted to become a teacher but decided to be a stay-at-home mom. During that time, she ran a daycare out of her home for 15 years.
“Having the daycare just reinforced my desire to become a teacher,” said Poe. “I wanted to wait till both my sons were on their own to go back to college. I remarried five years ago, and my husband really encouraged me to finish my dream so I did.”
