Those interested in running in the upcoming Regular Municipal Election should prepare to file their candidacy next week at City Hall.

One seat from each of Artesia’s city council districts will be up for election, as well as the position of municipal judge. Those seats currently include:

• District 1: Ignacio “Nacho” Mariscal

• District 2: Jarrod Moreau

• District 3: Jeff Youtsey

• District 4: Sam Hagelstein

• Municipal Judge: Sarah Gallegos

District maps can be viewed at artesianm.gov/DocumentCenter/View/4526/Voting-District-Map-2022-PDF for those needing to verify their district of residence or visit voterportal.servis.sos.state.nm.us/WhereToVote.aspx, enter your information, and check “Councilor” under “District Type.”

Those wishing to declare their candidacy must file a Declaration of Candidacy form, which is included in the Candidate Packets available online at artesianm.gov/263/Candidate-Packets. The form itself must be filed at City Hall between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

On Jan. 12, candidates will be certified by City Clerk Summer Valverde, and Jan. 16 is the final day to withdraw candidacy.

Jan. 16 will also be the filing day for write-in candidates who failed to meet the Jan. 9 candidacy deadline. Those candidates must file between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. that day, will be certified on Jan. 19, and must withdraw their candidacy, if desired, by Jan. 23.

Absentee — both by mail and in-person — and early voting for the municipal election will begin Feb. 6. Feb. 20 will be the final day to mail absentee ballots, and absentee and early voting will end March 2. Election Day will be Tuesday, March 5.
