Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum John Ross Null brought to the Artesia Public Schools Board of Education’s attention at its Monday meeting a program called Packs of Love that is currently taking place within the schools.
Packs of Love is a volunteer program wherein individuals in the community donate nonperishable food, such as beef jerky, canned tuna, fruit cups, etc., and send them home in backpacks over the weekend for students who may not have a guaranteed meal once away from school property. Volunteers fill the backpacks on Thursday afternoons, and the packs go home with 98 students on Fridays to provide them with food over the weekend.
