Forget traditional bake sales and catalogs, there’s a new fundraiser making its way around area elementary schools.
Hermosa Elementary, Yeso Elementary and Dexter Elementary have partnered with Mascot Books to create children’s books that are tailored to students.
The $15 book features the respective school mascots as they embark on activities specific to the schools they represent.
The idea began more than a year ago when Paula Menefee, Hermosa’s principal, wrote the book “Go, Bulldogs!” to raise money for her school.
The story follows a Bulldog mascot as he makes his way around Artesia’s elementary schools, through the town’s streets and to a victorious Bulldog football game.
“I wanted it to describe the whole spirit of the Artesia community,” Menefee said. “It’s just a supportive, united community. That was what I wanted to capture in the book.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
