ARTESIA — The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office responded Monday to an incident involving a suicidal subject who allegedly threatened to blow up a propane bottle inside his home.
Sheriff Scott London reports the ECSO received a call at approximately 10:19 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in reference to a suicidal subject from the staff of Milestones Wellness Center. Staff personnel advised that 36-year-old Chris Madron had just left their office after allegedly stating he had “a propane bottle in his house ready to blow” and was “headed home to do that.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
It was determined Madron resided at 75 E. Compress Road, No. 5. Deputies evacuated nearby residences and secured the scene. Members of the Eddy County Tactical Response Team were also dispatched to assist in the incident.
While on scene, it was determined Madron was indeed already home. Contact was made with him by telephone, and he was eventually negotiated out of his residence and taken into involuntary custody. Deputies transported him to Artesia General Hospital, where he was admitted for a mental evaluation.
On scene, deputies were able to locate a propane tank. It was determined it had not been tampered with or opened to possibly create an explosive environment.
