Artesia police officers have detained a suspect in connection with the Jan. 29 shooting death of a local security guard.
According to Artesia Police Department Sgt. Lindell Smith, officers were serving a search warrant on unrelated crimes at the home of 20-year-old Bobby Smith of Artesia Tuesday when they discovered evidence linking him to the murder of 24-year-old security officer Michael Evans. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
According to police reports, the incident is believed to have begun on the evening of Jan. 28, when Bobby Smith allegedly assaulted a man at Circle K Convenience Store with a knife. Later that same evening, reports indicate as Bobby Smith was walking in the vicinity of his home, located at 910 W. Texas Ave., No. D, he fired a gun into a residence in the area. According to Sgt. Smith, no one was injured as a result of the gunfire.
