A mountain of scrap metal lay strewn across the barren landscape eight miles south of Artesia early this morning after 34 cars on a freight train derailed.
The cause of the derailment, which included roughly one-third of the 94 total rail cars on the train, is unknown.
The train was reportedly not carrying any hazardous material and there were no injuries reported after the cars jumped the tracks a little past midnight this morning. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
