The town clock was reinstalled at the corner of Seventh and Main streets on Monday after an act of vandalism that occurred around New Year’s Eve essentially killed the clock.
The clock was destroyed after a large caliber bullet traveled through two panes of glass – glass strong enough to deflect a 22-caliber bullet – broke through an hour-hand and continued east toward the refinery on a potentially deadly path along Main Street.
The stray bullet only claimed one victim, the timeless timepiece that welcomes folks to Downtown Artesia as they travel east along Main Street.
After the act of vandalism disabled the clock, it was removed from its pedestal and sent to Cincinnati, Ohio for $6,000 worth of upgrades and repairs. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
