Artesia Fire Department firefighters were dispatched Thursday to the Western Way Shell, 102 N. First St., in response to a vehicle fire. A Buick Century experienced mechanical issues, which caused the fire. Fire Marshal James Abner said firefighters were concerned due to the fuel dispensing at the location, but the fuel ended up not being an issue and they were able to extinguish the fire quickly with no problems.
