Grand Heights Early Childhood Development Center kicked off a new program promoting male involvement in schools on Thursday night.

About 100 kindergarten dads, grandfathers, brothers and uncles brought their five- and six-year-olds for the “Dads and Kids Pizza Night” held in the Grand Heights cafeteria.

The event was held to encourage fathers to sign up for the Watch D.O.G.S. (dads of great students) program. Participants in the program take the day off of work and volunteer at their child’s school.

Grand Heights principal Lisa Robinson said the evening was a success.

“We kept getting RSVPs,” Robinson said. “It just grew and grew. I’m very pleased.”
