Ophelia Martinez

A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, May 31, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Ophelia Chavarria Martinez.

Martinez, 94, passed away peacefully Friday, May 24, 2024, at her home of 60 years, surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Terpening & Son Mortuary. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Grace.

Pallbearers will be Angelo Gerardo, Emiliano Gerardo, Monte Cristo Martinez, Ramiro Martinez, Robert Rimbert and Abraham Rimbert. Honorary pallbearers are Antonio Aragon, Francisco Rimbert and Xavier Gerardo.

Ophelia was born April 18, 1930, in Artesia.

Her favorite pastimes were dancing the jitterbug and embroidery. She would make beautiful quilts and dish towels and give them away as gifts.

Survivors include sons Dennis Martinez, Erwin Martinez and Pat Martinez; daughter Sylvia Gerardo; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aucencio Martinez; children Aucencio Martinez Jr., Olga Martinez, Jack Martinez and Batola Martinez; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
