Kirk Roberts, longtime head of the Artesia Police Department, announced his retirement as of July 1, according to a social media post from the City of Artesia.
Mayor Jeff Youtsey accepted Roberts’ retirement, per the post.
“The City of Artesia thanks Chief Roberts for his years of dedicated service to the community and wishes him success in his future endeavors,” read the post.
Commander Pete Quinones will serve as acting chief until the Artesia City Council appoints a permanent chief.
Quinones has served in a variety of leadership and operational roles.
“The city is confident in his ability to lead the department during this transition. The city would like to reassure residents that there will be no interruption in law enforcement service,” the social media post noted.
