The Artesia Police Department is continuing to investigate an incident of shots fired that occurred early this morning (Wednesday, Jan. 23) in the area of Fourth Street and Dallas Avenue.

Officers were dispatched to the scene around 5:15 a.m. today in reference to multiple reports of shots fired. Callers reported anywhere from two to more than a dozen shots.

According to APD Cmdr. Lindell Smith, police were able to find evidence of shots having been fired, but no injuries or deaths were connected to the initial response. Some property damage did occur.

“Officers and detectives are working closely to fill in the gaps of the investigation,” Smith said. “They are still on scene serving a search warrant.”
