In a ceremony held in Socorro, the home of New Mexico’s State Fire Academy, Artesia Fire Marshal James Abner was nominated and prestigiously selected out of roughly 100 municipal fire marshals in New Mexico for this year’s Fire Marshal of the Year Award.
The award was presented to Abner by State Fire Marshal John Standefer. Artesia Fire Chief J.D. Hummingbird was told by Standefer that nominating Abner for the award “was an easy choice for them to make” after all he has done for the city. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
“This award truly speaks volumes about James,” Hummingbird said. “What makes this award even more special is the fact that he has been here less than 18 months! He has made a significant impact in our department and community. I think this award was well deserved. I am very proud of him and all of the men and women at the Artesia Fire Department.”
