The Pride of the Pecos Valley goes through its paces Tuesday afternoon at the 2013 Southeast New Mexico Music Educators Association District Marching Festival at Bulldog Bowl. It was a tough year of judging for the seven bands in attendance, with no band receiving a rating of 1. The Artesia High School band received a 2, along with Hobbs and Carlsbad. Lovington, Portales, Goddard and Roswell all received 3 ratings. “I am very proud of them,” said AHS band director Lisa Dillon. “No one made a 1 today; that is an eye opener for all of us. The two 2A bands were not in attendance, so we started an hour earlier than expected, and with the sun setting, it was difficult for the kids to see the drum major. But they still played well. The kids gave it their best, and that is all we can do or ask for.” Grace Miller – Daily Press
