Hopefully, the Bulldog and Lady Bulldog golf teams remembered to yell “Fore!” Thursday as they blew past their competition in the Roswell Alien 8.

The Artesia squads swept the field at the NMMI Golf Course by decisive margins, with the Lady ‘Dogs besting their closest competition – Goddard – by 33 shots and the ‘Dogs coming in nine swings under second-place Clovis.

The girls in orange also punched their ticket to the Class 5A State Tournament Thursday with their third and final qualifying team leg (334), while the Bulldogs notched their first team leg with a round of 318.

Artesia senior Jake Craft won the boys’ tournament overall individually with his state-qualifying round of 75, followed by Wesley Davis (77), Parker Sanders (79), Giovanni Huitron (87) and Jake Nelson (88).

Davis’ and Sanders’ third- and fourth-place scores earned them each their second state leg.

Completing their three individual state legs at NMMI were Lady Bulldogs Brehnan Davis with a second-place-overall 76, Josey Jackson with a third-place 80, and Taysea Powell with an 84, which tied her for fifth overall. Teagan Archer logged her first state leg with a 94, and BriLe Ybarra posted a 96.

The Artesia teams will complete their “Spring Break Tour” Friday at The Links at Sierra Blanca. The golfers will host the 2017 Artesia Invitational Monday, April 3, at the Artesia Country Club.
