Bulldogs, Lady ‘Dogs on verge of state qualification in several events heading into Artesia Invitational

The Artesia High School swim teams perennially enter their lone home meet of the season with a chance to qualify one or two events for the State Swim Meet. This year, make that six or seven.

With three solid meets and a dual in Hobbs behind them, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will hit the water Saturday at the AHS natatorium with a shot at qualifying more events for state than any other squad before them. And with a field of some of the best swimming talent New Mexico has to offer on hand to push them, it’s no surprise head coach Lee Johnson and his athletes are excited about what tomorrow may bring.

“This is the best meet we’ve had since I’ve been here as far as talent and number of participants,” Johnson said Thursday. “We’re going to be watching a lot of swimmers that have already qualified and some teams that are going to score real high at the State Swim Meet.”

Slated to attend this year’s Artesia Invitational – which begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the natatorium – are Las Cruces High, Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Hobbs, Clovis, Los Alamos, NMMI and Mesilla Valley Christian. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
