The Artesia Police Department is currently investigating an incident that occurred this afternoon near East Grand Avenue just east of First Street.

It has been confirmed that one male subject is dead. The pickup in which the man was driving made contact with a tree in the front yard of a residence, but no information is yet available as to the cause of the man’s death.

As is protocol in unsolved death cases, the APD is investigating all possibilities and will, in the coming days, with the assistance of the Office of the Medical Investigator, make a determination as to the cause of death.

Cmdr. Lindell Smith of the APD says the public is in no danger in connection with the incident, and no one is being sought for questioning. Police are speaking with witnesses in the area who may have seen what occurred.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who believes they may have information relating to it is asked to call the APD at 746-5000 and ask to speak to the detective division.
