Flu season is upon us, and the Artesia Public School system has a way to keep its students healthy in the coming months.

School board members met in their regular monthly meeting Monday night to discuss a district-wide flu clinic, as well as other pertinent matters.

Camille George, the APS Assistant Superintendent and Director of Curriculum who organized the clinic, said that APS has been working closely with county health officials to offer the clinic.

“The county has been pretty proactive in helping to get our kids vaccinated,” George said.

APS will offer the vaccinations on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Students will receive a nasal mist vaccine that protects against all flu strains, including H1N1 (Swine Flu).

For students with health problems, such as asthma or other chronic illnesses, who cannot receive the nasal mist, there will be an injection clinic on Wednesday, Nov. 3. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
