ARTESIA — The Artesia High School Marching Band and Color Guard were recognized with a superior rating at the 47th Southeast District Marching Festival on Tuesday at Bulldog Bowl.
Nine New Mexico high school marching bands and color guards brought their best to the Bowl on Tuesday afternoon, being judged on three main criteria: music competencies, marching competencies and presentation of shows, including discipline and auxiliary effectiveness.

Each band and color guard is judged from a rating of Division 1, a superior rating, down to Division 5, a “poor” rating.

The festival’s three judges – Anthony Gonzales of Plainview (Texas) High School, Dan Todd from Crane (Texas) High School and Joseph Flores of Las Cruces — gave Artesia a unanimous Division 1 rating.

The rating takes the Bulldog Marching Band one step closer to qualifying for the three-event sweepstakes award at the end of the year. (The band must also receive a Division 1 rating in the concert and sight reading contests. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
