Daily Press Staff Writer

Joseph R Jiminez, 27, was serving a 24-day sentence in the Artesia Detention Center on charges of violating probation for an alleged battery when he escaped from police custody Wednesday.

Jimenez, according to detention officers, had beaten his head against the wall of his jail cell, saying he was insane. Jimenez asked for medical treatment, the report says, and was picked up by Artesia Police Department Cpl.
