Daniel McDonald, 27, of Artesia, was arrested Thursday when police say he brandished a machete at his wife, battered her, and used threats against her family members to extort $800 from her.

According to the Artesia Police Department report, McDonald’s wife drove to his home Thursday at approximately 2:30 p.m. to get her child’s birth certificate and paperwork for her vehicles. When she arrived, McDonald allegedly approached the passenger side of her vehicle, which was rolled down, and brandished a machete. McDonald then got into her vehicle, police say, and told her to drive to Gary Drive as he held the machete to her neck. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
