State police were dispatched Monday to a motor collision on U.S. 285 at mile post 18, south of Loving. The collision, which was the third on 285 in the past week, resulted in the death of David Hedgecock of Artesia.

Hedgecock’s 2003 Peterbuilt commercial vehicle was traveling northbound on 285, while the other driver, Floyd Fowler, of Utah, was traveling south. Fowler lost control of his vehicle on the wet surface of the road, say state police. When Fowler hit a curve close to mile marker 18, he drifted into the northbound lane and struck Hedgecock’s vehicle. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
